Rain

Saaqi
You brought me rain
How long will you stay?

Will you come to the tavern
And fill up these empty glasses?

Lucknow, India

Note: I was always intrigued by this Urdu word "Saaqi" which literary means wine-provider. Also, symbolically it refers to the Beloved and God. So, tried a very short poem using this particular word (though unable to touch the deep meaning of the word).

Trance

She stood there
--on the cliff
It was her favorite spot!

Each night she stood there
To see the city's skyline
And the moon;
who closely watched over her.

It seemed that she had been tranced...
Half-conscious--she could jump off the cliff
                                                          And fly.

Conversation II

"You know, I just discovered the other best part"
---And what is that?
    "The city looks beautiful at night.
Even though it has less trees,
Even though it's all concrete--but not unpleasant
I can look at it for hours...."

They looked at it again---TOGETHER,
                     holding their hand;
From the rooftop
from the balcony----miles apart.

Let it pass

Let it pass quickly
these days, countless moments...
People around here
have something to hold on--some small tress in pots,
some clothes---hanging;
They are at home!

Let it pass quickly;
These moments of extreme happiness and sadness
like waves--rising and falling.

Why this feeling?
This longing and this emptiness?
Why it feels like a migrant bird?

Lucknow, India.

Conversation I

The worst part of this city is traffic.
She said.
And the best part?
He asked.

Probably the rain
And the Earthy smell
that comes after it
To which she can relate to.

They stopped talking
for a while;
And looked into the sky.

It wasn't completely dark
The sky was radiant---in a mystic manner

She thought...
How did she end up here?
